Artspace.com releases its first commissioned limited edition multiple with Lawrence Weiner

NEW YORK, NY.- Artspace.com, the leading online platform for contemporary art, is pleased to announce the release of its first multiple commission with renowned conceptual artist, Lawrence Weiner. STARS DONT STAND STILL IN THE SKY is an exclusive limited edition sculptural multiple. Whimsical and bold, it employs the bright colors of Pop art and Weiner’s signature use of language and directions. The blue arrow, red star, and yellow tags that make up the work playfully depict a kind of navigational sign. “Stars dont stand still in the sky” and yet where they’re going is left to interpretation: “wheresoever,” “whensoever,” or “howsoever.”

Lawrence Weiner has worked closely with Artspace to produce this new work and exclusive edition–a hard enamel and raised metal plaque–available to Artspace.com Private Sale members only on September 13 at noon. An edition of 100, STARS DONT STAND STILL IN THE SKY is available through Artspace in a week-long sale, priced at $750. The sculpture is presented in a custom linen portfolio box with screws for mounting and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

A pioneer of conceptual Art, Lawrence Weiner began making art in 1960 and remains one of the most dynamic artists working today. By 1968, Lawrence radically shifted his practice from making objects to producing work in language and was employing language and typography as a primary vehicle for his conceptual work, helping to redefine the artist/viewer relationship. Lawrence Weiner’s work has been exhibited extensively in museums and galleries worldwide. Major solo exhibitions include those at Dia Center for the Arts, New York, NY; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN; Tate Modern, London, UK; Museo Tamayo de Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City, Mexico and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC. In 2007, the Whitney Museum of American Art organized the first major retrospective of the artist’s work in the United States. Weiner lives and works in New York.
