Award-Winning Songwriter Carole Bayer Sager Debuts Abstract Paintings at LA Art House
LOS ANGELES, CA.- Artist and Oscar and Grammy Award-winning songwriter Carole Bayer Sager debuted her new collection of lyrical, abstract paintings at her first ever solo show. Hosted at the LA Art House, Generations: New Paintings by Carole Bayer Sager marks the artist’s return to her original love of abstract work in an exploration of color, texture and light.
“Painting and songwriting have many similarities for me,” says Sager. “Both are intuitive and expressive and, just as in songwriting, it is rewarding when your painting touches another person.”
Celebrated for her legendary songwriting, Sager’s passion for art began as a hobby in 2006 and has flourished into a full-time endeavor. In 2009, she completed Power Chairs, a series of portraits of some of her closest friends in their favorite chairs. With a talent expanding beyond portraits, Carole’s abstract work embraces several mediums including photography and oil painting.

Sager’s latest collection came about after seeing one of her paintings through the camera’s lens and wanting to expand on the most intricate details in the piece. Magnifying these intricate selections, sometimes to 100 times their normal size, allowed her to explore and capture beautiful details that would have been barely noticed by the human eye and turn them into their own exquisite, full-sized pieces.
Generations: New Paintings by Carole Bayer Sager is featured at the LA Art House through Saturday, February 12th. Modeled on the 19th century French idea of the salon, the LA Art House was developed from a unique vision shared by Margaret Perenchio and Ann Moss. The gallery both showcases contemporary art and also supports new talent by donating 100% of its profits to the Hammer Museum in support of Hammer Projects, an international exhibition forum for emerging artists around the globe.
Carole Bayer Sager’s songbook spans 40 years and contains some of the period’s most popular and successful songs. From the Grammy-winning “That’s What Friends Are For” and the Oscar-winning “Arthur’s Theme” to “The Prayer” and “On My Own,” Sager’s songs have become pop standards. Honors for her work include an Academy Award, a GRAMMY Award, two Golden Globe Awards, a Tony Award, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and many others. Sager’s songs have been recorded by such historic artists as Barbra Streisand, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, Aretha Franklin, Bette Midler, Celine Dion Reba McEntire and Andrea Bocelli.
Beyond her songwriting, Sager has also received notice for her many philanthropic efforts. These include work with the American Foundation for AIDS Research, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Save the Children. In 2005, Sager and her husband, Bob Daly, underwrote the first two years of the Los Angeles operation of the non-profit organization known as DonorChoose.org. The program, which allows teachers to post the projects for which they need funding and lets donors choose the classroom plan that they want to fund, has grown to a nationwide network. Sager has continued to expand her philanthropic interests, employing her time and talent most recently as member of the Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
