CU Art Museum Presents Inaugural Exhibition Program
BOULDER, CO.- The CU Art Museum at the University of Colorado at Boulder presents archiTECHtonica, as part of the museum’s inaugural exhibition program. archiTECHtonica explores the trope of architecture in contemporary art and examines the aesthetic and philosophical notion of the architectonic in art. The exhibition includes painting, photography, new media, sculpture, and site specific installations. Works in the exhibition explore architectonic subjects including the relationship of technology to architecture and the utopic/distopic legacy of architectural modernism across the globe. Works also address the relationship between architecture and memory, architecture and language, and architecture and the body.
CU Art Museum Director, Lisa Tamiris Becker conceived and curated archiTECHtonica in part to celebrate the construction of the new CU Art Museum, as well as to probe the significance of the art/architecture relationship in contemporary art.
The exhibition features ten contemporary artists: Yael Kanarek, Stefan Kürten, Rafael Lozano-‐Hemmer, Mildred Howard, Marco Maggi, Driss Ouadahi, Daniel Rozin, Richard Saxton, Peter Wegner, Seung Woo Back, and a digital archive of The Snow Show exhibition.
In addition, CUAM Director Lisa Tamiris Becker has chosen a selection of artworks from the museum’s permanent collection to extend the thematics of archiTECHtonica. The works, which explore subject matter relating to architecture and the architectonic, include Renaissance and Baroque as well as modern and contemporary additions to the exhibition. This corollary of archiTECHtonica, on view in the museums’ new “Project Gallery”, will remain open through Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010. The main archiTECHtonica exhibition will remain on view until Saturday, December 18, 2010.
