Johnny McIntosh Appointed Chief Financial Officer at Birmingham Museum of Art
BIRMINGHAM, AL.- The Birmingham Museum of Art welcomes a new chief financial officer. Johnny McIntosh, former president and chief operating officer of the successful Southern Living at Home direct sales business, assumed responsibility for business and financial operations at the Museum on April 26.
“The Museum has been looking for someone with the financial skills and experience to help us build an overall stronger organization,” said Gail Andrews, director of the Birmingham Museum of Art. “Johnny’s expertise in budgeting, forecasting and financial planning will enable us to couple our superb artistic program with a corresponding financial plan of the same caliber.
“Johnny’s work with Southern Living at Home proves he’s a very creative thinker,” Andrews said. “We look forward to his applying that creativity to our mission, our work, and our business model at the Museum.”
McIntosh comes to the Museum with a background that includes being a certified public accountant, a publisher, and a controller. He held leadership in two different divisions of Southern Progress Corporation that each netted the Birmingham-based division of Time Warner more than $100 million in yearly revenues. Before running Southern Living at Home, McIntosh had risen through the ranks at SPC to become vice-president and publisher at Oxmoor House, the company’s book publishing arm.
McIntosh was instrumental in 2005 in developing Southern Living at Home, a direct sales home décor business, which expanded the Southern Living brand through an approach sometimes compared to Tupperware parties or Pampered Chef. At its peak, with McIntosh as its president, Southern Living at Home boasted hundreds of sales consultants, hosting dozens of parties, and selling enormous numbers of various designer items for the home each month. Time Warner sold the Southern Living at Home business to a competitor last year.
Before Southern Living at Home, McIntosh served as vice-president for Consumer Marketing, also known as circulation, for all the magazines at SPC, including Southern Living, from 1999 to 2005. From 1984 to 1999, he rose through the ranks at Oxmoor House.
