DRESDEN.- Central to Eberhard Haverkost’s artistic realization is the critical reflection on the present, being saturated with pictures. He deals with the optical perception of the realistic world and its pictorial abstraction. Purposefully, he examines the visual rhetoric of media images and the picture forms typical of their time, which condition our daily image consumption.

The exhibition focuses on works that were created after 2007. The confrontation of diverse conceptual approaches in the oeuvre of Eberhard Haverkost – between abstraction and representation, between reality and fiction – will create a space of thought typical of Eberhard Havekost’s exhibitions, which can be experienced by the visitors.

Due to the almost complete absence of representational elements, Eberhard Havekost’s most recent works mark a remarkable break in his oeuvre. They accelerate the question of authenticity of images, which is consistently addressed by means of painting. Means, which have been developed in earlier groups of works: reflecting or dull projection surfaces, changes of perspectives or the examination of culturally standardized design are applied.

Eberhard Havekost was born in Dresden in 1967. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, in the final step as a member of the master class with Professor Ralf Kerbach. Today, he belongs to the most important artists of his generation. He will be teaching art as professor at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf from October 2010 onwards.
