Largest Bronze Sculpture of Classical Mythology in the World Set to be Unveiled in the City of Miami
MIAMI, FL.- The highly anticipated crown jewel of the Ginés Serrán Miami Art Exhibit, “The Union of the World: Monument to World Peace” has arrived in Miami and is here to stay. Measuring 26 feet in height and 17,600 pounds in weight, today this grand bronze sculpture is the largest in the world and will make Miami, the Magic City, its permanent home. On January 23 at 6:00 pm, thousands will gather in Miami’s thriving Mary Brickell Village to watch its unveiling, which will be presided by countless dignitaries and celebrities from around the world including Dr. Dame Evangeline Gouletas, Former First Lady of New York State and developer of SkyPalace at Mary Brickell Village, the Monument’s creator, international artist Ginés Serrán, and the Honorable Mayor of the City of Miami, Tomás P. Regalado who will also present the artist with the Key to the City of Miami.
Holding a powerful and significant meaning of unity and peace, this monument was inspired by the legend of “The Pillars of Hercules” where Serrán uses the hero to unite the columns instead of separating them. “It is a representation of the historical and cultural ties of Europe with America, and a commitment to living in a peaceful world,” states Serrán. “Miami was truly the perfect setting for this epic sculpture as it is a city that welcomes people from all over the world, representing a ‘melting pot’ of cultures,” he adds.
For the official unveiling and inauguration of this important landmark on January 23rd, Evangeline, who conceived, organized, and sponsored this historic unveiling event, has planned an enchanting evening at Mary Brickell Village to celebrate the occasion. Red Carpet arrivals will begin at 6:00 p.m. At 7:00 p.m., the Honorable Tomás P. Regalado, Mayor of the City of Miami, will unveil the Monument and present the Artist with the Key to the City of Miami. Several other dignitaries have already confirmed their attendance including Ambassadors, Consul Generals, Mayors, Academic and Business Leaders from around the world. Even Hollywood has taken notice – Gabrielle Anwar of the hit-show Burn Notice, currently filming in Miami, will be present to celebrate this momentous event along with several other celebrities.
“’The Union of the World: Monument to World Peace’ will become a landmark monument in Miami that will be visited by thousands of people from all over the world,” states Evangeline, who has worked very closely with Serrán for months to create this unprecedented unveiling. “I could not be more proud of sharing this historical event with my dear friend, Ginés, and together brining such an important sculpture to the City of Miami and to the world.”
This installation will transform the City of Miami, creating a must-see global destination that will generate increased recognition and revenue for the City and its surrounding businesses. Recent art pieces of similar scope have shown tourism increases up to 400 percent and served as the backdrop for film and television pieces, news stories, photo shoots, and inclusion in worldwide travel polls.
More than two thousand years ago, Phidias and Chares created the famous sculptures of “Zeus” and the “Colossus of Rhodes”, gigantic monuments that were both destroyed by earthquake and fire. No sculpture of Classical Mythology of comparable size has been created since. The largest existing in the world was the Hercules statue “Heracles Farnesio” in Naples, Italy at 10.4 feet high. Serrán’s sculpture, at 26 feet high, is today the largest bronze of classic mythology in the world.
Ginés Serrán is a truly international artist and sculptor. Ginés’ paintings, known for their colors and symbolism, embody the many years he has spent living with the indigenous people of the world, including the Native Indians of North America, the rural fishermen of Japan, and the people of Tahiti, China, the Philippines, India, Indonesia, and Australia. He has received numerous international awards and recognitions. Most recently he has been endorsed in Spain for the Gold Medal for the Arts, a rare and privileged distinction.
