TORONTO.- Following the success of the 2012 Concrete Contemporary Art Auction, Waddingtons.ca announced the second annual sale of Canadian Contemporary Art on March 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., at Waddington’s galleries, 275 King Street East in Toronto. This year’s auction features 94 lots from over 80 Canadian artists.
“Similar to last year’s platform, this is a truly contemporary auction of Canadian Art held for commercial purposes,” said Stephen Ranger, Vice President of Business Development for Waddington’s. “Most of the works in the auction have been created post 1980.”
Artists in the auction represent a myriad of Canadian contemporary artists and include: Michael Adamson, Stephen Andrews, Greg Angus, Ed Bartram, Edward Burtynsky, Janet Cardiff, Kim Dorland, Tim Forbes, Marc Garneau, Will Gorlitz, Robert Houle, Spring Hurlbut, Wanda Koop, Joshua Jensen-Nagle, James Lahey, John Lennard, Evan Penny, Annie Pootoogook, Tony Scherman, John Scott, Bewabon Shilling, Jeremy Smith, Michael Snow, Jeffrey Spalding, Gary Taxali, Joanne Tod, Carol Wainio, Arnold Zageris among many others.
A fundamental aspect of CONCRETE CONTEMPORARY’s concept is the development of the ACQUISITION FUND that will assist and provide funding for a public institution in purchasing a work at auction. CONCRETE CONTEMPORARY will match 50% of the funding of the purchase price of a work up to a maximum of $10,000. Public galleries will be invited to submit a proposal that will be adjudicated by an arms length advisory panel.
The winning proposal will in turn receive funding to bid on a work of their choosing. CONCRETE CONTEMPORARY’s mission is to directly assist contemporary artists in receiving places in public collections.
“Art collectors’ interest in purchasing works by Canadian artists continues to escalate, and by developing and presenting this annual auction it allows us the opportunity to bring the works of contemporary artists into the spotlight,” says Ranger.
Previews for the second annual Canadian Contemporary Art auction will take place on: March 2 and 3 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
March 4 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
