LONDON.- A new work by Turner Prize nominated artist, Cornelia Parker, created specially for the campaign led by artists against funding cuts, was released today. LONDON (AP).-Some of Britain’s best-known artists launched a campaign Friday to oppose planned government cuts that could slash arts funding by 25 percent. More than 100 artists including David Hockney, Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor, Antony Gormley and Tracey Emin say they fear deep cuts could hobble the country’s creative economy. Fiona Banner will Create the Tate Britain Duveens Commission 2010

LONDON.- Fiona Banner has been invited to create the next installation for the Tate Britain Duveens Commission 2010, supported by Sotheby’s. Her new work, created especially for the neoclassical Duveen galleries at the heart of Tate Britain, will be unveiled on 28 June 2010 and will be on display until 3 January 2011. Artists who have previously undertaken the Commission include Eva Rothschild (2009), Martin Creed (2008), Mark Wallinger (2007), Michael Landy (2004), Anya Gallaccio (2002) and Mona Hatoum (2000). Penelope Curtis named new Tate Britain director

Penelope Curtis, curator of the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, has been appointed the new director of Tate Britain. Dr Curtis, 48, a specialist in sculpture and 20th-century British art, will succeed Stephen Deuchar, who has held the role for 11 years and is leaving to become director of the Art Fund. Dr Curtis will take up her appointment at Tate Britain next April. Sir Nicholas Serota, director of the Tate galleries, said Dr Curtis had made an “outstanding contribution” [...]
