NEW YORK, NY.- Wright announces Harry Bertoia Sculpture: 15 Years at Wright, an exhibition showcasing select sculptures from their history of selling Bertoia at auction alongside works never before offered to the public. The exhibition runs from January 21 to February 15, 2014 in their New York gallery at 980 Madison.
Since 2000, Wright has sold more than 550 sculptures by Bertoia — more than any other auction house or gallery. The categories of sculpture established by Wright have become the marketplace standard, and they are honored to continue championing the works and the legacy of Harry Bertoia. The elegant, emotive metal sculptures he created are among the finest to emerge from the modern art movement.
In May 2007, Wright staged a landmark exhibition and auction featuring Bertoia’s sculptures. Comprised of sixty lots, Bertoia: Material and Form set record-breaking prices catapulting the artist’s auction records to new heights. In June 2013, Wright dedicated an auction to Harry Bertoia’s works from the seminal Standard Oil Commission.
Harry Bertoia Sculpture: 15 Years at Wright is Wright’s third exhibition dedicated exclusively to the works of this important artist. The show features the most noteworthy examples of the Bertoia’s finest forms, from Sonambients to Bush forms, including extraordinary works lent to the exhibition by private collections.
“In our very first auction in June 2000, we sold a Sonambient sculpture by Harry Bertoia. Ever since, we’ve championed the work of this important artist. We are proud to present an exhibition that celebrates Wright’s history of offering the finest works by Harry Bertoia to the market.” — Richard Wright, President
