Julian Onderdonk, Porfirio Salinas, highlight Texas Art Event at Heritage Auctions

DALLAS, TX.- Paintings by early Texas Impressionists, such as Julian Onderdonk’s Coreopsis, Near San Antonio, Texas, 1919, Dawson Dawson-Watson’s Texas Cacti, and Porfirio Salinas’s Texas Summer — each expected to realize $20,000+ — join iconic works of the American West, like Fred Darge’s The Posse, Audley Dean Nichols’s Indian Oasis, Arizona, 1919, and Frank Reaugh’s Untitled (Herefords in a Landscape) in Heritage Auctions‘ May 11 Texas Art Signature® Auction in Dallas.

“The Texas art market is as strong and diverse as the state itself,” said Atlee Philips, Director of Texas Art for Heritage Auctions. “A collector can find everything from traditional Texas landscapes of the Hill Country and iconic images of the American West to surrealistic paintings by Texas Regionalists and Modernists, as well as works by contemporary Texas artists.”

The auction includes numerous works by pre-1945 Texas Regionalists and mid-century Modernists ranging from The Pink Hillocks by Kelly Fearing and Cowboy by Olin Travis, perhaps one of the finest examples of his style, in addition to Ledge, 1969 by Everett Spruce.

Additionally, the May 11 auction features works by contemporary Texas artists like James Surls and Ancel Nunn, including Look Out, 1993 and Chair on a Hook, 1986.
