Paris Photo Los Angeles opens to public after successful preview

LOS ANGELES, CA.- More than 4,500 attended the successful preview event for Paris Photo Los Angeles, the inaugural United States edition of the renowned Paris fair for artworks in photographic media, including prominent collectors Michael and Eileen Cohen, Rosette Delug, Cliff and Mandy Einstein, Bob Gersh, and Dean Valentine; important museum curators Quentin Bajac, Simon Baker, Stephanie Barron, Roxana Marcoci, Sam Stourdzé, and Marc-Olivier Wahler; Hollywood notables Roberta Armani, Kevin Bacon, Scott Caan, Sacha Baron Cohen, Trevor Donovan, Minnie Driver, Fergie and Josh Duhamel, Colin Egglesfield, Jodie Foster, Angie Harmon, Ellie Kemper, Sean Penn, Kyra Sedgwick, Jesse Williams, and many more turned out for the day’s events.

The art world turned out in full force; in addition to the Cohens, Delug, the Einsteins, Gersh and Valentine, the Los Angeles collecting community was represented by Larry and Susan Marx and Manny Simchowitz among others. The preview of the fair featured strong attendance by top museum curators including Stephanie Barron, the Chief Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Quentin Bajac, Chief Curator, Department of Photography and Roxana Marcoci, Curator, Department of Photography, both from the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The J. Paul Getty Museum’s Karen Hellman, Assistant Curator of Photographs, attended and the Getty Research Institute was represented by John Tain, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Collections. Sam Stourdzé, Director of the Musée de l’Élysée attended from France.

The preview featured events celebrating Paris Photo Los Angeles’s partnerships with Armani, BMW, and the Wall Street Journal. In addition, the French Embassy held a reception honouring Ceci n’est pas… a project initiated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.

Guests were impressed by the unique concept of the show, featuring 72 international exhibitors – 60 galleries and 12 publishers/booksellers installed in three soundstages at Paramount Pictures Studios, as well as the New York Street Backlot – and the quality of material presented, which features more than 1,000 artists working in photographic media, including the moving image.

Paris Photo Los Angeles is taking place at Paramount Pictures Studios and is open to the public April 26-28, 2013.
