St. Petersburg (USA) open a museum dedicated to Salvador Dali

Figueres (Girona), Jan. 7 .- The city of St. Petersburg, Florida (USA), will open next Tuesday 11, a museum of over 6,000 square meters dedicated to Salvador Dali.
Taking advantage of the opening of the new Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, the city of Figueres is twinned with this city of Florida, announced today the catalan consistory.
This new museum, the second largest in the world of Dalí in Figueres after, will give the 2,000 pieces from the private collection of A. Reynolds Morse and Eleanor Morse, a married couple friend of Dalí, who until now exposed part of his work at a smaller and without the right conditions for the oils of genius Empordà.
This museum opened in 1982 in St. Petersburg and receives over 300,000 visitors annually, and nearly 30 years later, he opened a new space with many more square meters and better designed specifically to expose the 96 oil paintings by the artist between 1917 and 1970.
In addition, also host hundreds of watercolors and drawings and 1,300 graphics, sculptures, art objects and books that comprise the private collection of Morse.
The new center will also have a theater showing the film videos and recordings of the era of the artist, and a cafeteria.
Taking advantage of this event, a delegation from the city of Figueres travel to the U.S. city to formalize a partnership that has as main objective the exchange of paintings, but also students, actors and athletes.
The vice-mayor of Figueres, Francesc Canet, said today that “it is an opportunity we have to login to highlight two citiesat have two major museums devoted to Dalí, but then also included the fact of putting the best possible Figueres an important area of the world. ”
This exchange is intended to be a driving force that attracts tourists from Florida to the Alt Empordà interested in culture and also to export food and wines of the Denomination of Origin (DO) Empordà.
